Code of Conduct for Players, Parents, & Coaches
We want 3DL Basketball to be a fun, enjoyable, and meaningful learning experience for everyone in the gym. Following the Code of Conduct will help ensure that our children grow as athletes and people.
Code of Conduct
PLAYER CONDUCT
No swearing, taunting, or inappropriate verbal or physical behavior. A Site Director will issue a warning and ask you to refrain from these comments. A second warning may result in sitting out of the game. A third warning may result in dismissal from the gym for the remainder of the day. (Unsportsmanlike Conduct) *At the Site Director’s judgement, any of these steps can be skipped for serious and/or dangerous misconduct.
Checked balls MUST be checked to the hands with appropriate force to the opposing player. Balls checked at the feet or with too much/too little force may result in charge of “unsportsmanlike” play by the ref.
Unsportsmanlike play may result in:
1) Warning
2) Sitting out (ref discretion); or
3) Ejection from the game or league.
No hanging on the rim or net.
Teams must wear matching shirts/uniforms.
Players will demonstrate good sportsmanship and shake hands with their opponents at the end of the game.
PARENT/SPECTATOR CONDUCT
One referee/court monitor per game on each youth court. Since a typical AAU, YMCA and other youth game utilizes two referees to obtain a clear view from both sides of play, 3DL Basketball requests the assistance of players, parents and fans to understand that the referee/court monitor is just one person who is only able to see the game from one perspective. It is crucial that players and fans understand this and respect that he/she is someone willing to serve as a monitor to call the games to the best of his/her ability, and to maintain the spirit of 3DL.
3DL Basketball discourages parents and fans from becoming factors in the
Game (let the players play and the coaches coach), and asks that they refrain from negative comments about game action and calls made by the ref, regardless of how incorrect they believe the calls may have been.3DL Basketball requires that the coach is the sole representative for the team and the only person with the authority to approach the referee/court monitor. The coach is also responsible for making sure the other parents and spectators of their team to act in a manner that is respectful and positive.
No swearing, taunting, or inappropriate verbal or physical behavior from spectators. A Site Director will issue a warning and ask you to refrain from these comments. A second warning will result in dismissal from the gym for the remainder of the day. Refusal to do so could result in your team forfeiting their game. *At the Site Director’s judgement, any of these steps can be skipped for serious and/or dangerous misconduct.
In the Development league, a court monitor may stop play and coach the players about certain rules before actually calling the violation and taking the ball away from the offending player’s team. These teaching moments are a crucial part to the 3DL Development League, so please be respectful of them.
If a parent has an issue with how the game is being called, please find a Site Director to voice your concerns. Coaches on the bench with the kids are the only ones allowed to address the referees/court monitors. At no point should a parent spectator enter the court or approach a referee/court monitor in an angry or aggressive manner.
Cheering is encouraged!
All players need completed liability waivers signed by a parent/guardian to participate. If a team is short of players, teams may bring subs. Subs are required to have a completed liability waiver (please have them check-in with the site supervisor).
Take the time to THANK A REF, staff member, or opposing player who did a great job.
Please help keep the facility clean by taking garbage and water bottles home after your games.
COACH CONDUCT
No swearing, taunting, or inappropriate verbal or physical behavior from coaches. A technical foul will be called and a coach can be kicked out of the gym for the day if it is a serious or ongoing problem.
Coaches are responsible for their player’s and crowd’s behavior.
Coaches need to make sure that all liability waivers are filled out and up to date. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit.
